Southern Manufacturing Exhibition

Brian Tomlinson MBE Reporting from the Southern Manufacturing & Electronics Exhibition Farnborough

The exhibition was located in a tented arena on the side of the airfield with temperatures of minus 2 degrees, so the first priority was to locate a heat source and make friends with the site engineers to position it as near to the stand as possible. Competition was fierce with some of the young ladies on other stands taking unfair advantage of the engineer’s good nature.

This is an excellent format and gives the ten companies involved a greater exposure to otherwise expensive events that in this climate may otherwise prevent them from exhibiting individually. Despite the temperature at the opening of the exhibition on the first day the crowds appeared in full and by mid morning there was standing room only on most of the stands. This trend continued throughout the day, and the stand had its fair share of interested visitors. The second day followed in the same vein but I would say that the number of potential clients to all MAN members was of a higher quality with some 40 enquiries being received by the group.

It was also a great pleasure that on the second day we were visited by Marie-Louise McAlister, Brandauer family board member who showed great interest in the MAN stand and the companies exhibiting.
