This ambition is spear-headed with the innovative approach the management have towards growing their business. David Spears, Brandauer’s Managing Director, is also the founder and chairman of a unique cluster of ten companies who refer to themselves as MAN (formally Midlands Assembly Network). This innovative idea, which Brandauer is a part of, is a network of SMEs with complementary services offering a diverse range of mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic sub assembled solutions to a global customer base.
Rowan Crozier, the Sales and Marketing Director at Brandauer takes up the story, "As a network, we are able to offer more diverse and flexible engineered solutions. With all 10 members complementing one another, we are able to share and reflect on mutual experiences, issues and potential opportunities. "
He continues, "The MAN network has proven to be a real success. As a group we are able to share both costs and business knowledge. While sharing all marketing costs equally between the 10 members offers immediate economic advantages, it’s the shared knowledge that strengthens our businesses and sales teams giving that extra edge required to achieve sustained growth in an uncertain economic outlook ".
2010 is a year of optimism, Brandauer see the next three years as a prime opportunity to grow into new markets and expand. They have identified the rail infrastructure sector as a key area for the future growth. To spearhead this campaign Brandauer became the 100th member of the Rail Alliance, an organisation that helps bring suppliers and customers within the rail supply chain together.
Rowan said, "Rail is a new area of focus for Brandauer, but a sector we see as growing through massive investment. As part of the increased focus in this sector MAN exhibited at this year’s Infrarail show, which helped generate a number of enquiries for all member companies.
Brandauer specialises in the development and manufacture of innovative precision pressed solutions in difficult materials, with expert in-house tooling design and manufacturing facilities.
Rowan confirmed, "We pride ourselves as having a diverse customer base, supplying sectors including white goods, plumbing, automotive, tele-communication, aerospace, electronics and healthcare. We have an ethos of being pro active; we like to be ahead of the market and not simply responding to the environment at the 12th hour."
One such area Brandauer feels it can offer a unique benefit is within the medical sector. Richard Hammond's Invisible Worlds recently featured some of the innovative companies that are manufacturing on an ultra small scale. With a 147 year history built on precision, Brandauer is well placed to take advantage of this emerging technology.
Rowan said, "Being at the precision end of the market we can engineer bespoke pressed components down to a 50 micron tolerance band in high spec, high value materials including, gold, silver, brass and stainless steel, which fits nicely into the medical sector needs. We already have some customers who are allied to this sector which gives us a clear entry point. "
"A whole new area of micro-machining technology is coming to market. High tech developments allow machining capabilities on objects smaller than the size of a human hair. For example you could write the entire contents of the Oxford English dictionary onto the nib of a ball-point pen. Although still in its infancy, Brandauer sees this as a very important next step to underpin their global position as an exemplar precision manufacturing company. "
Another exciting development was launched in June at this year’s Subcon event; The MAN Group used the platform to launch their rebrand. A slick new image, brochure and exhibition stand was unveiled at the show. Rowan confirmed "Brandauer and its fellow MAN members are keen to build on the recent collaborative success of MAN and look forward to presenting our new process-based branding to all prospective customers. "
These are exciting times for Brandauer and a mixture of knowledge transfer between members of the MAN group and a positive attitude to adapting to a challenging market place all bode well for a very promising future.
