Progression Press Tooling Manufacture and Design

Using our progression and precision tools, Brandauer have been manufacturing precision metal components for customers around the world for over 150 years. We are capable of working with the widest range of metals and continue to invest in the best technology to manage the in-house design and manufacture of progression press tooling.

Brandauer’s dedicated Wire EDM cell houses multiple Agie Charmilles wire EDM machines, fully integrated with CAD/CAM software. The rarity of these machines in the UK showcase our commitment to continuous improvement and investment in new and innovative technology. They are crucial in the manufacture of our 3 unique tooling standards (Standard Fixed, Precision and Modular tooling).

The design of our progression tooling benefits from bespoke CAD software, including Visi Vero 3D which uses intelligent 3D Toolpaths with High Speed Milling routines to improve productivity, reduce machine cycle times and ensure the most challenging and complex parts are produced at the highest quality, every time.

The design and manufacture of progression and precision tools are part of our promise to deliver a complete manufacturing solution for the production of pressed metal components.

 

Brandauer’s 3 unique tooling standards are outlined below and are used dependent on customer requirements and component complexity:

 

1. Standard fixed

  • Die set precision guidance elements only
  • Typically fixed location punches
  • Material thickness > 0.5mm
  • Full tool protection

2. Precision

  • Full length Die Set (Top and bottom bolster) with large precision guidance elements
  • Fixed internal elements with individual precision guidance elements
  • Punches and dies cut to +/-0.001mm
  • Material thickness 0.05mm—1.0mm
  • Full tool protection

3. Modular

  • Full length Die Set (Top and bottom bolster) with large precision guidance elements
  • Internal modules with individual precision guidance elements
  • Punches and dies cut to +/-0.001mm
  • Typical material thickness between 0.05mm—1.0mm
  • Suitable for ‘in press’ change over
  • Reduced change over time ‘SMED’
  • Full tool protection
